Background:
Elena Michaels was orphaned as a child after her parents were killed in a car crash. After being passed through various foster homes, she finally found her strength in running and used school as an escape mechanism. Eventually, while in college, she met Clayton Danvers. He proposed and she went to meet his family at Stonehaven.
At Stonehaven, Elena met Jeremy. He was the man who had raised Clay, though they weren't related. While at Stonehaven, Elena was bit by what she assumed to be an ordinary dog. However, it was actually Clay in his wolf form. From there, Elena's life became anything but smooth. Men rarely survived a werewolf bite. And woman never did. Elena was the first and only of her kind. Jeremy tended to Elena during her long, complicated transition.
The transition was taxing and exhausting. After a year, Elena was beginning to become comfortable in her new skin and place in the world. As part of The Pack, she was given a special, coveted place within the community. The Pack was made up of men who came from a long line. Anyone outside The Pack (ie: anyone bitten) was regarded as a lower caste and considered a mutt.
Elena is still trying to fully forgive Clay for the bite. Their relationship defies definition as they are often at odds with each other. This forces Jeremy (as the alpha male of The Pack) to act as a peace-keeper between them.
